Look People in the Face

The human face has evolved over several million years to signal a wide range of emotions, says Rick Hanson, neuropsychologist and author of “Buddha’s Brain.” Yet we’re often so intent on getting where we’re going (or on our smartphones) that we rarely really see others’ faces — be they strangers on the street or our loved ones. Tonight, make it a point to be curious about the face of someone you interact with. Hanson says it will help you feel more compassion toward that person and a deeper sense of connection to the people around you.
