Working out regularly is important for overall health, but if you spend the vast majority of your time sitting — as so many of us do — your sedentary ways could be shaving years off your life: According to an American Cancer Society study, women who spent more than six hours a day sitting, regardless of how much they exercised, had a 37 percent greater risk of dying prematurely than women who sat three hours a day or less. Today, challenge yourself to stand up every time you’re on the phone. You’ll not only counteract the physical effects of too much sitting, you’ll be less likely to multitask while on the phone and you’ll offer the party on the other end of the line your full attention.
