Expand Your World—Meet Someone New

There’s nothing like old friends, but too much time spent swimming in the same social pond can lead to stagnation. Commit to saying yes to the next invitation that sparks your interest even a little bit, or go online tonight and find a community meeting, class, or networking event in the next week that you’ll attend. “Groups and meetings may expose you to ideas, interests, and creative outlets that were once strange to you, which is rewarding in and of itself,” writes Brian Vaszily in his book “The 9 Intense Experiences.” Or keep it even simpler: Introduce yourself to someone you’ve seen around the office but haven’t actually met.
