Take a Stand Against Child Marriage

Today, Girl Up is launching an initiative to mobilize 500,000 girls to say I DO take a stand against child marriage by October 11, 2013 — International Day of the Girl.  Child marriage is a human rights violation.
In most countries, 18 years old is the minimum legal age of marriage, yet one in seven girls in the developing world marries before the age of 15, with little or no say in the matter.  In these countries, more than 25,000 girls get married every day.

Say I DO take a stand against child marriage. Girl Up is ready to tackle this challenge — but we need your help. Tell your representatives in Congress to back important legislation that would increase U.S. support for programs that help prevent child marriage in developing countries.
By signing this petition you are joining the growing number of people who think it is time to end child marriage and protect girls around the world. Stay tuned for more ways that you can get involved. Will you join us and say I DO take a stand against child marriage?
