Why are women so possessive of their men?

I have noticed there seems to be a need amongst women to validate or own their relationship with men. This desire is usually based on the declaration of how well the women know the men in their lives. Why does this exist?

I have seen it predominantly amongst mothers with their sons and wives with their husbands, usually trying to prove superiority with the daughter and mother-in-law respectively. Why do women have this need to assert their position over other women within the same family?

Why do women have to resort to their relationships with men for a superior position anywhere? Can’t they gain respect on their own merit?

How does it matter if a woman knows a male family member or friend really well? I think what would really matter is if the particular male family member or friend knows the women reciprocally?

Mothers show off that they know their sons really well, wives do the same with their husbands or boyfriends, sisters do the same with their brothers and even women do the same with their close guy friends.

The reality is that each and every one of us, male and female, display different aspects of our personalities with different people based on certain commonalities or relationships but never with entire personas. This does not mean to say that these separate parts are not genuine pieces of a whole but it is unrealistic to think that a person shares everything they think, feel and do with one particular person.

We behave differently and appropriately with our parents, siblings, children, co-workers, spouses/ partners, close girlfriends, close guy friends, friends and acquaintances. Amongst these groups, there exists differences of how one behaves with another person in comparison to someone else, even though the relationships may be the same or extremely similar.

Women have to get past defining themselves through their relationships with the men in their lives.

There is more to women than in-depth knowledge of someone’s personality!
