The Morung Express: ‘Begin women’s rights from home’

DIMAPUR, JULY 6: With increasing capability of women in the social arena and the growing determination to achieve their status, Secretary Finance, Kikheto Y. Sema IAS has said that fighting women’s right from home itself would give more impetus to women’s struggle. According to Kikheto, women would gain more confidence to exhibit their abilities if they were supported by their husband and male members of the family.
Speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Kohima Sumi Totimi Hoho at Sumi Baptist Church,  Daklane on Friday as the guest of honour, he also strongly advocated the need for inclusion of women in decision making bodies. Stating that women’s rights are also human rights, Kikheto called for active participation of all concerned in defending women’s rights.
He spoke about leading quality life for which he said the role of women was immense. “Quality of education is also important but quality of life is more important,” Kikheto said and added that women (mothers) whom he referred to as ‘home minister’ were the best to inculcate the lesson on quality of life.
Kikheto further dwelled on respecting the government which according to him was installed by God. In support of his point, the speaker referred to Romans 13:1 in the Bible which mentioned about submitting oneself to the “governing authorities for there is no authority except which God has established.”
Nagaland State Women Commission member, Kakheli Jakhalu talked about the dire need for educating the girl child who will be the mother of tomorrow. Director, Art & Culture, Kughazhe Yeputhomi also spoke during the programme. Pioneers of the Kohima Sumi Totimi Hoho and scores of others who have contributed towards the welfare of the hoho were felicitated during the programme.
